Breakouts happen when pores, connected to oil-producing glands under the skin, become clogged with oil, dead skin cells and dirt. This can lead to the formation of blackheads and whiteheads, which can become infected and turn into red, swollen pustules or cysts. They can appear not only on the face but also on other parts of the body, such as the back, chest, and shoulders, where there are more hair follicles and more oil production.

Blemishes such as blackheads are blocked hair follicles or oil glands that have been filled with a mixture of excess oil, dirt, debris, or dead skin cells. They are commonly found on the face especially the nose, but can occur anywhere on the body where hair is present.

The sebaceous glands located under the skin of the nose produce an excessive amount of oil, known as sebum, which can give the nose a greasy or shiny appearance. This is particularly noticeable on the t-zone, which includes the forehead, nose and chin. While some sebum is necessary to keep the skin hydrated, protected and healthy, too much can lead to breakouts as the oil, dirt and bacteria clogs the pores. This can also leave the nose with a shiny appearance.
